Intensivsprachwoche Schottland
Flight 6643 from Bratislava to Edinburgh – please proceed to the gate!!!!
On October 17th, 2009 twenty students from the 3a and their two teachers Prof. Hofer-Taferner and Prof. Knorr-Kohlhofer (probably more nervous than their students) left Bruck to head via Bratislava to Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland.
After a short flight the adventure began – we were picked up and brought to the Mackenzie School of English where the host families were already waiting for their new family members. The first afternoon passed by and on Sunday morning we headed towards Stirling Castle, the historic highlight of the day. The journey into the Scottish past went on when we visited Wallace Monument. (Tip: there are T-shirts with the exact amount of steps!)
On Monday the lessons began – what a pleasant change! (Sorry Prof. Knorr :-) The interactive tour in Edinburgh was fun – yes, we could answer all the questions!
Tuesday was devoted to Glentress Forest. A cool experience in two ways: 1) it was interesting and informative 2) it was really cold…
William Wallace celebrated his revival on Wednesday evening when we watched Braveheart. Oh yes, Mel Gibson is a gooooood freedom fighter!!!!
Edinburgh castle was also super – thanks to Kevin, our guide, we were not sent to prison. (Sometimes teachers are strange people…) Believe it or not: cool to see but not to stay…
We also had romantic moments – Queensferry is a place to relax, enjoy, dream … have coffee in the fresh Scottish sea breeze … and get wetter than wet!
Then, finally, there was the event of the week: Scottish dancing. There was only one problem: the lack of female dancers … good news: our teachers are (good?) dancers and so we could spin and spin around in our new kilts!
Saturday came – some taxis didn’t – and again we heard the airport announcer:
Flight 6642 from Edinburgh to Bratislava – please proceed to the gate!!!!
When we arrived in Bruck we sure were tired but we were also happy since we had spent such a wonderful week in Scotland!
